The Dawg Pound
January 17, 2012
Winter finally got real here in Wisconsin last week! It's time to retreat into the house and crank up the heat. But don't become a hermit! We have an active schedule over the next couple of months. Break out of those winter doldrums and catch one of these shows! Also, Steve's Guitar Shop gets down and dirty with how to keep a simple copper wire from ruining your next gig! Super Sub Rob Szudy has a new place you can go to make frightening electronic devices from things you probably have sitting around the house. Scared? You should be. Next Three (or Four, if you're picking nits!)
Saturday, February 11—9:00 PM: TAH Birthday Bash at The Club Tavern in Middleton Friday & Saturday, February 17 & 18—8:00 PM: Madison Ho-Chunk Gaming (DeJope) Saturday, March 17—9:00PM: St. Patrick's Day at The Hody in Middleton Welcome to the Pound! We are proud to welcome all the new members who joined us here at The Dawg Pound by signing onto our email list at our Hody gig a couple of weeks ago! As a member, you'll get this newsletter sent to your inbox once a month, and an occasional email notice of upcoming gigs and special announcements. We promise not to share your address with outsiders, and we won't fill your inbox with tons of junk. We don't like SPAM either!
What A Rush! Last Saturday we had one wild ride at The Hody in Middleton! The bar was packed and rocked from the moment we started playing until the last note echoed off the far wall. We are looking forward to a similar experience in March when we return for St. Patrick's Day! Get there early, or you'll spend the night standing in the corner!
Steve's Guitar Shop Have you ever had to rush into a performance with little or no time to do a sound check or test your setup? What happens when you fire up the amp, the drummer clicks the sticks to rock the crowd with your hottest new tune, and you hear a POP! BZZzzzzZZZOWW! crackle-crackle!
That's “Trouble” with a capital 'T' and that rhymes with 'C' and that stands for Cord! Cords get pulled, twisted, wound and unwound, folded, spindled and mutilated all the time. Eventually some delicate copper strands of wire get torqued once too often and you develop a short. What can you do to keep shorts to a minimum and quickly get back on your feet when a cord goes bad? Steve walks you through this virtual forest by detailing: Using guitar cables vs. speaker cables.
Coming Attractions In addition to our usual features we are thinking of ways we can keep you updated on our band members' other musical groups and upcoming performances. The Dawgs don't play every weekend and several of us are involved in other fine groups and activities you might like to check out. Take a peek at our home page to keep track of some of these events.
Also, Undercover's Rob Szudy, who is a VIP sub player for us has posted a page of instructions on how to build your own musical instruments. Even if you don't know which end of the screwdriver to pound the nail with it's a great read with pretty pictures and everything! Find it here. Until our next performance, have a great winter! The Red Hot Horn Dawgs P.S. Warm up with a sweat shirt shipped to you from our store! P.P.S. Join us in this modern interactive e-world of Twitter and Facebook! |
