The Dawg Pound
July 19, 2011 Welcome to the "Dawg Days" of summer! But relief is in sight. Our popular annual summer show is coming up, we'll be playing a beer tent on Madison's East Side and the forecast calls for mustard! Plus, Music Meister Jamie Sercombe keeps cranking out new arrangements and Steve's Guitar Shop tells you how your guitar can weather the weather. Next 3
Sun, July 24, 1-6 pm - Middleton - Capital Brewey Bier Garten Sat, July 30, 4-7 pm - Madison (east) - St. Dennis Festival Sat, Aug 6, 11:30 am & 3 pm - Middleton - National Mustard Day Annual Summer Bash
Two years ago we thought it would be fun to throw a party for our 10th anniversary at the Capital Brewery Bier Garten. And so it was. We have now made it an annual tradition of ours and this year's edition takes place this Sunday afternoon! The doors open at 1:00 PM, the 'Dawgs will start playing around 1:30. We plan to feature tunes we've added to the books over the past year, including some brand new material mentioned later in this newsletter. As a new twist this year we will showcase a new feature between 'Dawg sets. Beckons, a two piece pairing of bassist Evan Riley and his wife Becky, will take the stage. We'll close the show with a set of 'Dawgs Classic--our long time favorite songs featuring Horn Dawg alumni! Sort of a "Ghosts of 'Dawgs Past" kind of thing. There will also be band CDs available for a goodwill donation. Oh, and Capital Brewery has pretty good beer, too. Bring the kids and the sunscreen! We hope to see you there! Other Upcoming Shows
The following two Saturdays you can find us at St. Dennis Parish on Dempsey Road playing the beer tent at 4:00 PM, then on Parmenter St. in Middleton for the always entertaining National Mustard Day in front of the Mustard Museum. We'll play two sets this year, at 11:30 AM and 3:00 PM. Last month's debut issue helped you choose the right guitar for your needs. No matter which kind you chose, all guitars are made chiefly of wood and that makes them sensitive to temperature and humidity. More music has been flying across our music stands as we wind our way through summer. We have been putting some polish on Billy Joel's Tell Her About It. We added horns to You May Be Right and The Romantics' That's What I Like About You. We have a stack of charts we're working on but we don't know for sure if we'll have them ready for The Bash at Capital Brewery. Therefore I'll just drop some hints so you can sniff them out at one of our upcoming shows! Summer is the season for baseball, and John Fogerty has had a classic tribute to "America's Pastime" for over twenty five years. Grab your "beat up glove" and sing along! We're working on an Elton John version of a late '60s song from The Who. There is a pair of tunes on our to-do list from John Mellencamp--um, I mean John Cougar Mellencamp, ahh, Johhny Cougar! Maybe "Mister Johnny Cooper," [obscure Bob & Tom radio show reference.] Whatever. His name changes over the years, the songs do not. Thank God! Finally...
We hope summer is treating you well. Treat yourself, your family, your friends, coworkers, neighbors, etc., to some great entertainment at one of our upcoming public performances! See you Sunday! We'll truly be "Sweatin' to the Oldies!" Rock On! The Red Hot Horn Dawgs P.S. Don't forget, you can follow us on Facebook & Twitter! P.P.S. 'Dawg gear can be shipped directly to you by shopping at The Dawg House! |
