Steve's Guitar Shop

We are pleased to announce the first of an ongoing series of articles submitted by Horn Dawg string picker Steve Oasen.  Steve's Guitar Shop (or SGS,) is where Steve will reveal all the secrets to great guitar playing he's been mastering for a lifetime. Over the next few issues you'll get great information on:

• Choosing the right guitar for you
• Maintenance and upkeep
• “Tools” of the trade
• Tips on amplifiers and other hardware

His first article will discuss the basic types of guitars and how to pick one that's just right for you. The advice he offers is a powerful tool for beginners to avoid newbie mistakes and make good decisions when buying your first guitar. Or how to find a better alternative if you're not pleased with your current one.

Get to know Steve a little by checking out his bio page
here. Then check out Steve's Guitar Shop!

You can now get Red Hot Horn Dawg merchandise through our online store! Cafepress.com allows you to put the 'Dawg logo on a variety of items, like t-shirts (several colors and styles,) hoodies, canvas carrying bags, coffee mugs, bumper stickers, and more!  Please check out The Dawg House and stock up on all kinds of 'Dawg stuff. You'll be glad you did.

And so will we!

New Music

Sadly, we are getting closer to the time when sax man Tony Klubertanz will be leaving the band.  When he goes he takes away more than his saxophone.  We also lose a unique style on vocals for tunes such as New Orleans, Play That Funky Music, and Brickhouse. As well as the impromptu version of I Like Big Butts which made infrequent appearances at shows over the years.

We are taking this forced opportunity to explore some different styles based on the band's current talent.  Recently at The Club Tavern we introduced (or in some cases re-introduced,) a number of new projects we've been working on. Ray Charles' What'd I Say, Paul Simon's Me and Julio, and The Rolling Stones' You Can't Always Get What You Want all were featured. We also expanded our “cheese” set with Mambo #5 and Bang the Drum All Day.  Steve Oasen continues to sneak in bits of classic country music with Don't Rock the Jukebox, Friends in Low Places, and Folsom Prison Blues.

Come out to a show soon to hear this stuff for yourself!
